Hello:

We had a great time at the Voyageur Landing Forest Preserve meet in Elgin Illinois.
Here is a link to pictures and story from the days activities.

Yeah, I (we) had a great time, but I think we can do better in promoting this meet as a place to get out and run.  If you view the aerial maps of the Fox River that are online, you will see that on that particular day (the river height varies with the rains and it was down a bit) we had about 2.5 miles of river to run on!  And, did anybody notice that we basically had the whole river to ourselves?  That's right.  No wake boarders, skiers, or large boats tossing up humongous wakes.  I saw ONE bass boat go by once.  If there 's another boating venue in northern Illinois that has these amenities on a Saturday, would they please show it to me?
Finally, please note that between myself, Joe Becker, and Joe Vitas, we "pushed the envelope" and boated north and south until we ran out of depth.  We churned up sand and mud--no rocks--no damage--except to our egos.  Of course, that's no guarantee, but it does seem promising.
The rocky shoreline?  Well, I'll be there a week early next year to clear some of the rocks out.  A piece of 2X4 or old log to pull your boat up on does wonders or bring a piece of throw-away carpeting.
